Twenty Airbnb volunteers learned about the plight and resilience of refugees, and how the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ and New Roots support them to build a new home in the United States.

The New Roots Program of the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ (̽»¨¾«Ñ¡) in Tucson empowers refugees and other community members to grow their own food for their families and for the market. Many refugees have agrarian backgrounds, and the program allows them to employ their skills for the economic advancement of themselves and their families. 

Nine New Roots gardeners took photos to document the impacts the program has on their lives as part of a participatory action research method, PhotoVoice.

Refugees and new American farmers participating in New Roots work hard through the summer growing season to support their families and provide fresh produce at an affordable rate for the communities they live in.

The Queens Community has truly made the garden on 69th Street their home during the 2022 Spring-Summer Farming season!  As a safe space for collective gardening and community engagement, the New Roots Community Garden (NRCG) has beautifully flourished and become firmly rooted in the Queens Community.

Hser Nay and her family joined the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Utah’s New Roots program last year as budding farmers ready to grow fresh produce, work to achieve their goals of financial independence, and build a better life for their kids. They have achieved incredible success while building stronger bonds as a family and with their community.

City councilors unanimously approved the lease agreement for New Roots farm, securing the multicultural garden oasis’s future for an additional four and half years.
