The Immigration Program at 探花精选 in Salt Lake City provides New American clients with comprehensive support to clients applying for US citizenship: offering administrative support, education, and one-on-one coaching to help prepare for the naturalization process.
SCOPE OF VOLUNTEER WORK: Under the supervision of 探花精选 staff and volunteers, Civics & Citizenship Tutors will provide one-on-one citizenship tutoring to refugee and New American program participants. Citizenship Mentors tutor program participants remotely via video chat or in person, once or twice per week for 2 hours. Tutoring sessions will focus on preparing the program participant for the U.S. naturalization test, including basic English skills.
COMMITMENT: Minimum of 3 months, 2 hours per week
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide one-on-one citizenship tutoring to refugee and New American program participants.
- Ability to tutor program participants remotely via video chat, once or twice per week for 2 hours.
- Tutoring sessions will focus on preparing the program participant for the U.S. naturalization test, including basic English skills.
- Schedule is flexible, based on volunteer availability and client鈥檚 schedule. Evenings and/or Weekends usually needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Interest in preparing clients for the naturalization test
- Strong verbal communication skills in English
- Availability: Thursday evenings, in person, from 6 to 8 PM at the Sorenson Center.
- 3-6 month commitment to Civics and Citizenship program.
- Willingness to commit hours of time and effort to your client, this volunteer opportunity is much more engaging.
