“We’ve been buried alive:” Inside Eastern Ghouta’s underground bunkers. Since aerial assaults intensified in this suburb of Damascus on Feb. 18, many residents have moved into basements or other underground shelters, in order to escape the bombardment, which has killed more than 1,700 civilians and injured over 5,000.

More than 2,000 unaccompanied children are on the waiting list for safe shelters in Greece, according to a new report by 12 organizations, including the ̽����ѡ (̽����ѡ). The chronic shortage of accommodation for children is just one of the gaps in services that is worsening as the Greek Government prepares to take full control of the refugee response. 

Every day, ̽����ѡ staff members greet thousands of refugees arriving on the island, providing them with reliable information and guidance — commodities as valuable as food and shelter. Most of these new arrivals, while thankful for reaching dry land safely, are exhausted, wet and frightened. ̽����ѡ counsellors, social workers and translators do their best to address their concerns and answer their most pressing questions.
