Since mid-2013, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ has promoted community awareness about violence against women, setting up services for survivors and supporting health workers. Dr. Ahmed is one of several key staffers at the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡-supported health facility in Mogadishu, where the first survivor of sexual violence sought support in February 2014. Since then, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ team has helped more than 30 survivors.

As Syria marks ten years of war, this report explores the widespread and devastating impact that a decade of systematic attacks on health facilities has had on Syrian civilians, and the crippling effect the decimation of the country’s health care system has had on its ability to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In June 2015, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ selected one sub-county comprising three health facility catchment areas to pilot this ‘last mile’ strategy as a sub-set of the larger immunization project. The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ introduced a smartphone application, or mHealth tool, using tailored CommCare software. The application developed a localized immunization information platform to allow facility-based health care workers to more easily identify and follow up those children that may have missed (or defaulted on) one or more of their vaccination.
