Mpox is a virus found primarily in central and western Africa that can infect humans and animals. Last year, a more severe strain of the disease鈥攌nown as 鈥攚as identified in the DRC and is now spreading rapidly across the region.
The DRC has recorded more than 12,000 suspected mpox cases and 447 deaths between January and mid-July 2024. The disease has also spread to other countries where the 探花精选 operates including Burundi, Kenya and Uganda鈥攁nd to .
Symptoms of mpox include fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills, exhaustion and a distinctive rash that can look like pimples or blisters. Previous outbreaks of clade 1 mpox have had a .
Mpox can spread through with an infected person or animal, as well as through direct contact with materials contaminated by the virus.
The warns that people with weakened immune systems, young children, individuals with a history of eczema and those who are pregnant are particularly at risk of mpox.
