The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Atlanta's volunteers are essential members of our community, as their work provides invaluable support to new Georgians seeking to rebuild their lives after surviving conflict and disaster.

Narges Shojai fled Afghanistan in 2008, lived in Turkey for 11 years, and immigrated to the US in 2019. She overcame language barriers, secured a job, gained citizenship, and voted in her first election.

January is National Human Trafficking Awareness month. An ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ client and survivor of human trafficking shares her story with us.

The Sayid family arrived in early fall 2021 to NYC from the base that temporarily housed evacuating families from Afghanistan. As a family of five, they were focused on resettling as soon as possible. A new beginning for them meant finding a new apartment, setting up social benefits, and enrolling their two children in school. More important is the emotional process of resetting and finding comfort through a difficult transition.

Nabil fled Syria with his parents, brother and two sisters when the war intensified in their home city of Homs. They struggled for four years in neighboring Jordan before being given the opportunity to resettle in the United States in September 2015. Read about Nabil's transition to a new home and community.

On September 29, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Silver Spring invited 50 clients, family mentors, and staff to the Nationals baseball game in Washington, DC for an evening of family fun. The game was a great opportunity to build community, eat burgers and fries from Shake Shack, and provide a break from the stress of Back-to-School season.

The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in Wichita is currently supported by a team of 55 active volunteers. Volunteers currently provide ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ staff assistance with case management, employment, Cultural Orientation (CO), Job Readiness Training (JRT), teaching ESL, youth and family mentoring and immigration services.
