Nelson Bulambo, 24, fled his home in the Democratic Republic of Congo after his uncle was killed and his entire family was threatened. Now he's built a new life in Uganda as a barber through an ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ program that helps refugees and migrants overcome barriers to financial stability. Up to 300,000 refugees and migrants from Syria, Afghanistan and other war-torn lands have fled to Europe this year, and most have landed on Greece’s eastern islands. Aid workers with the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ have been providing critical aid and services on Lesbos which has struggled to cope with the massive influx of up to 3,000 refugees arriving daily.

The situation in Europe remains fluid. As of March 2016, countries along the popular western Balkan route have sealed their borders, forcing thousands of refugees to idle in makeshift camps in Greece. In addition, hundreds of migrants and refugees have been sent back to Turkey as part of a controversial deal between that country and the European Union.
